Wild Hunger – Chloe Neill

Release Date: August 14th 2018

Berkley (Penguin Random House): Urban Fantasy

329 pages (paperback)

As the only vampire child ever born, some believed Elisa Sullivan had all the luck. But the magic that helped bring her into the world left her with a dark secret. Shifter Connor Keene, the only son of North American Central Pack Apex Gabriel Keene, is the only one she trusts with it. But she’s a vampire and the daughter of a Master and a Sentinel, and he’s prince of the Pack and its future king.

When the assassination of an ambassador brings old feuds to the fore again, Elisa and Connor must choose between love and family, between honor and obligation, before Chicago disappears forever.

*Be forewarned that this series is a continuation of Neill’s previous series Chicagoland Vampires and it could be quite spoilery for those who have not read or finished the books.*

I am a huge fan of the Chicagoland Vampires books and have been for about seven years and have immersed myself with the Sentinel Merit and the vampire Master Ethan Sullivan both of Cadogan House. I was quite excited to see the Neill was going to go for a spin-off that included their daughter – Elisa. At first, I was not sure what to expect, however, once I started to read – I couldn’t stop.

Usually with spin-offs there are characters who are pretty much an essence of previous characters such as they have the same sarcastic remarks, are described somewhat similar and really, its just the same character with another name. Neill took this and did a 180 in that we hardly saw previous character unless it was necessary as it was more important to meet and fall in love with the new characters rather than bring the old ones back. As much as I love Merit and Ethan, I found I really loved Elisa, her best friend Lulu and her ‘frenemy’ Connor. These characters were so much fun to learn about and see that they weren’t their parents from the previous series. Lulu was the best friend I wished I could have as she was eccentric yet laid back at the same time and knew when to fight her battles and when she should stay put. Connor, of course, was the kind of character you would expect to be as the prince of the North American Central Pack – broody yet yummy. He has trouble with finding who he is among  trying to be what his pack needs but he tries to be there for Elisa whenever he can despite their years of nagging one another. Elisa was … not her parents at all. I wasn’t quite expecting this so much as really enjoying her as an individual. She is fierce but very compassionate and she, like Connor, is fighting to find herself in a world that has already characterized her.

The story was easy to get into from the start yet difficult to put down as I did not finish till 2 AM. Like all of Chloe Neill’s books it was filled with action packed scenes as well as the best one liners she could give to her characters that had me holding in my laugh too many times. Like her parents, Elisa is skilled in wielding a katana and she is not afraid to use it, though she is a vampire (a monster to some) there is also something within Elisa that she calls a monster and isn’t sure what to become of it and she is found to fight against throughout the book as well as learn to fight with it.

Another fact about the book I loved was that it felt like more of an adventure rather than a romance and while there are steamy connections, I appreciated learning about the world, character relationships and new character developments. It was fun reading about the old gang and learning about the new gang coming together and seeing them all interact. I am excited for a sequel and wish I had the book in my hands right now.

Overall I gave WILD HUNGER 4 stars and wish Connor Keene and Ethan Sullivan were real people and that I could have more than one husband because they would definitely be in my circle of husbands. Thank you readers for reading and I will have another blog post up soon.

Over and out.

Hey everyone! Welcome to my stop on the Snared tour! I have been very lucky to be apart of many tours for the Elemental Assassin series and I’m glad that I continue to be a host as it is so much fun to read about Gin’s adventures and be apart of the release. Keep reading for my review, a tour wide giveaway and a quick Q&A with the author, Jennifer Estep.

 Snared

Snared – Jennifer Estep

Release Date: April 25th 2017

Pocket Books: Urban Fantasy

400 pages (Kindle Edition)

You can read this review and others on my Goodreads here. (Don’t be shy to send a friend request as well!

If you don’t know Gin “the Spider” Blanco, you don’t know dangerous female heroines.
Irony 101—The Spider herself snared in someone else’s web…
Another week, another few clues trickling in about the Circle, the mysterious group that supposedly runs the city’s underworld. Gathering intel on my hidden enemies is a painstaking process, but a more immediate mystery has popped up on my radar: a missing girl.
My search for the girl begins on the mean streets of Ashland, but with all the killers and crooks in this city, I’m not holding out much hope that she’s still alive.
A series of clues leads me down an increasingly dark, dangerous path, and I realize that the missing girl is really just the first thread in this web of evil. As an assassin, I’m used to facing down the worst of the worst, but nothing prepares me for this new, terrifying enemy—one who strikes from the shadows and is determined to make me the next victim.
I do this every time but guys, this is the 16th book in the Elemental Assassin series and I don’t know about y’all but I do not get tired of reading about Gin and her adventures. I continue to be surprised and genuinely enjoy every book!
You have all seen the movie Shrek, I assume? Remember that part where Shrek is telling Donkey how there are deeper parts of him – layers, like an onion, or so Shrek makes the analogy. Donkey later has a remark that cake also has layers and that’s how I see this series. With every book I read, there is another layer that Estep has laid down for us and while some may not enjoy it, I am ecstatic. There is more to the story arc and more information is poured through the pages about who Gin is, her origins and the people who get in her way are not always necessarily the only people she may need to fight in order to find her answers and I love it.
In Snared, Gin is still trying to find the origins of the group The Circle, who seem to know more about her as the boss of the criminal underworld of Ashland, much more than she would like and some secrets on who exactly her mother was before her unfortunate death when she was younger. But it is all side stepped as another mystery has come to surface and needs Gin’s attention if no more bodies are to be found. Of course as Gin is looking further into the case, the circle is keeping a close and watchful eye on her every move, something that leads Gin to thinking that maybe The Circle and the mysterious crimes are more connected than she thinks.
I love the direction the series is taking, the mystery aspect and more background information that really makes you think. The other characters are always a hoot to see again – Finn, Bria, Sofia and Jo-Jo and of course Owen! The feeling of family and friends is never lost in the books and it really brings the story together and also it makes me happy knowing the gang always has Gin’s back no matter the trials.
And then there’s the blood. Ahhh the blood. Gin is always getting blood on herself, stains and rips in her clothes from showing everyone just how strong she is and that she will always be on the top in the end despite what anyone else thinks. In this book, Gin does take the beatings every now and then but her magic and fighting abilities that involve her silverstone knives show everyone why she is the best assassin in Ashland and that Gin wins each and every time.
As I said earlier, I enjoyed the mystery tone to the book and I am hoping for more as Gin is more than her fighting and stabbing. She is smart and very intuitive, I hope to see more of that side of her.

Overall I gave the 4 book stars and of course am waiting impatiently for the next installment and I’m sure Estep is working very hard on it as I speak.  Thank you readers for reading and I will have another blog post up soon.

Q&A with Jennifer Estep:
1. Top 5 movies you are excited for this year?
JE: I’m excited for Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and the Beauty and the Beast remake.
2. Do you like vegetables? If so what is your favorite? If not, cheeseburgers are the way to go.
JE: I actually really like vegetables. Tomatoes are my favorite, and I love making salads with them, carrots, cucumbers, red onions, and more, especially during the hot summer months.
And most of those things go great on a cheeseburger too. LOL.
3. If Gin could have been named something else other than Gin, what would her name be?
JE: Tough question. I don’t really know. She’s been Gin to me for so long now that I just can’t imagine her with any other name.
4. Let’s say Finn did something exceptionally bad that would make Gin want to kill him, how would that happen? Or would she just let someone else take care of him for her?
JE: I don’t know that Finn could ever do anything bad enough that Gin would really want to kill him. He is her brother, for better or worse.
5. I have read all you’re books, even your YA series, and loved them all but which series was the best to write or the easiest?
JE: Thanks! I appreciate that. Glad you are enjoying my books.
I probably have the most fun writing my Elemental Assassin books. I just love writing all the action and fight scenes in those books, along with all the food scenes. I would say the runner-up would be my Bigtime superhero series, since those books are just zany, goofy fun.
6. Thank you so much for being on my blog, I love your books and can’t wait to see what else you bring to us and wish you all the best!
JE: Thanks for hosting me. Happy reading, everyone!

Unraveled – Jennifer Estep

Release Date: August 30th 2016

Pocket Books: Urban Fantasy

400 pages (Kindle edition)

You can read this review and others on my Goodreads here. (Don’t be shy to send a friend request as well!

What could go wrong when you’re trying to unravel a decades-old conspiracy?

As the current queen of the Ashland underworld, you would think that I, Gin Blanco, would know all about some secret society controlling things from behind the scenes. I might be the Spider, the city’s most fearsome assassin, but all my Ice and Stone elemental magic hasn’t done me a lick of good in learning more about “the Circle”. Despite my continued investigations, the trail’s gone as cold as the coming winter.

So when Finnegan Lane, my foster brother, gets word of a surprising inheritance, we figure why not skip town for someplace less dangerous for a few days? That place: Bullet Pointe, a fancy hotel resort complex plus Old West theme park that Finn now owns lock, stock, and barrel. At first, all the struttin’ cowboys and sassy saloon girls are just hokey fun. But add in some shady coincidences and Circle assassins lurking all around, and vacationing becomes wilder—and deadlier—than any of us expected.

Good thing this assassin brought plenty of knives to the gunfight…
This is the 15th book. And I am still in love with the characters, the world and the story! The Elemental Assassin series continues to amaze me and Gin continues to weave more and more of story to us that we just gobble up. Also she continues to just kills it every time (haha pun intended)!
In Unraveled, Gin continues to be the badass assassin she has grown to be. Unraveled also follows the events, quite closely, in Bitter Bite – Gin keeping an eye on her foster brother Finn as he navigates life after being betrayed by his own kin and ears our for all info on the Circle for which she learned both her mother and Finn’s were apart of. In the midst of everything, Finn inherits a the Old West theme park and resort from his mother. Of course Gin sees this as a trick and she and Finn, along with their significant others, Owen and Bria, go on a vacation to see if this theme park is just a vacation for them or a trap.
Upon arrival everything is going smooth and Gin lets her guard down a smidge but she notices Circle assassins are lying in wait for them and Gin knows its her job to saddle up and show these goons who the real sheriff in town is.
Unraveled was a little different from the usual Ashland setting as there are way more cowboy hats and gun as opposed to Gin’s usual Silverstone knives but I won’t complain as reading about Gin in a ruffled, cowgirl getup costume that had me giggling for quite a few minutes. You see when Gin goes in to save someone she loves, she goes all in and a certain scene involved her showing a little more cleavage, wearing a dress and taking pictures with random people where I am sure she would have rather been slicing someone up instead. It had the perfect amount of cheesiness that I laughed out loud at some scenes but the whole Wild West theme couldn’t take away from the showdowns Gin threw at us. She may have indeed brought knives to a gun fight but damn can that girl use them.
What I love about this series is though it can get bloody, the focus on family and friends is never lost. Gin, no matter the situation she is in, almost always has the back up she needs. She doesn’t need to ask, they are just there. It is always a pleasure to read about her assistant, Silvio, and his gadgets that keep track on her whether she likes it or not. Finn and her sister Bria are one of my favorite book couples and even though Finn isn’t quite himself yet, he can always say something that makes Bria blush like crazy and it makes me happy to see him happy. Owen, Gin’s boyfriend, is a great side character, behind Gin in every decision she makes. He never wavers when she is in a bind because he just knows she will always come out on top. Also he’s a rugged hottie, what’s not to like?
But I also really like that this series can get bloody. Estep doesn’t shy away from the killings and how Gin gets the job done. She isn’t scared to write about the red stains Gin gets on her clothes all the time and how gruesome a death can be. Gin can be a messy assassin but that is what makes her the Queen of Ashland. Gin has to do what needs to be done and what others can’t get done. I love her fighting to get what is rightfully hers and getting revenge where she deserves.
Overall I gave this book 4 stars and I am eagerly waiting for the sequel because of the many questions I have – What is Gin’s mother, Eira, doing in the Circle? Any more people in the Circle we need to know about? Is Finn going to be Finn completely? (Pretty please, I miss him) When will Owen propose or is Gin not that type of person? See? Questions! Thank you readers for reading and I will have another blog post up soon.
Over and out.
EXCERPT:
“Anything would have been better—warmer—than this.” He popped up the collar of his trench coat so that it would cover more of his neck, then slouched down even farther in his seat.

“Aw, poor baby. Stuck out here in the cold and dark with me tonight.” I clucked my tongue. “And to think that I was just about to offer you some hot chocolate.”

His blue eyes narrowed with interest. “You have hot chocolate? Homemade hot chocolate?”

I reached down and pulled a large metal thermos out of the black duffel bag sitting between our seats on the van floor. “Of course I have homemade hot chocolate. You can’t have a stakeout on a cold winter’s night without it.”

I grabbed a couple of plastic cups out of the duffel bag and handed them over to Phillip, who held them steady while I poured. The rich, heady aroma of the hot chocolate filled the van, cutting through the icy chill that had crept inside the vehicle. I breathed in the fumes as I capped the thermos and put it away. Phillip passed over my cup, and I drew in a couple more steamy breaths before taking a sip. The dark chocolate coated my tongue with its bittersweet flavor, softened by the vanilla extract and raspberry puree that I’d added to the mixture.

Phillip cradled his hot chocolate like a bum huddled over a trashcan fire. He took a long slurp and sighed again, this time with happiness. “Now that’s more like it.”

SO make sure to get through the whole post and I hope you are able to get your hands on a copy of Dirty English because it is a very sizzling read that you don’t want to miss!

Meet Declan and Elizabeth in Ilsa Madden-Mills new fighter romance!

Release Date: October 12th, 2015

Dirty English #2

A scarred fighter.

A girl with rules.

One night of unbridled passion.

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: she’s smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She’s learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end.

But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex.

A tattooed British street fighter, he’s the campus bad boy she’s supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window.

She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more.

With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

My Review:

I have been in a terrible reading slump before reading Dirty English and I have read Ilsa’s books before so I had some expectations on what I was delving into and had hope that this would be the book to get me out of the slump. And it was.

I loved reading Dirty English, the spicy sexiness that the characters had, the drive to be better and of course the love we get going on within the pages. And according to many other fabulous readers, this book takes a twist with Pride and Prejudice, a novel that I hate to admit I have yet to read. While this book has some things that pertain to the book, you don’t have to read Pride and Prejudice (though you probably should later on) and continue to enjoy the book as I did.

My favorite part about the book as a whole was the slow, kindling romance. Obviously from the premise we know that they are attracted to one another, pretty much off the bat and there’s nothing wrong with that. Elizabeth and Declan try to fight it but its difficult when you live next to each other and continue to learn things about one another that almost no one else knows. Secrets fly, attracting becomes something so much more and then one night brings it all together. I liked that even though the couple got what most look for in one night stands, they continue to fall for one another and that makes it work for me. That had me keep reading and yearn for the HEA I wanted so badly.

Declan, though he may look too badass and a type of guy you would steer clear of was indeed badass and a type of guy you should steer clear of but all he need was love. That made me melt because I know everyone wants love, everyone wants a reason to breathe and I knew that Elizabeth was his reason. Elizabeth was an interesting character with a not so good past that she was always on the run from. I’m glad that when she was with Declan she didn’t need to think about anything other than him, her worries were forgotten and she was free – even for a little while.

Basically my heart was a pile of goop as I read this book and I hope that if you, dear reader, happen to come across this book your heart will be goop and Ilsa Madden-Mills’ books will then be on your TBR forever.

Thank you readers for reading and thank you TRSoRProductions for the ARC and letting me be apart of this tour. Hope I persuaded you all to get this book and if you do (hopefully) come back and discuss it with me further!

DOING IT FOR LOVE

All About Love #1

Cassie Mae

Releasing September 29th, 2015

Loveswept

Cassie Mae’s charming, sexy new novel, perfect for fans of Emma Chase, puts a steamy twist on modern love as one bride-to-be tries to put the spark back in the bedroom—by any means necessary.

Elizabeth Fanning’s life looks pretty perfect, judging by the diamond ring on her finger. Her fiancé, Landon, is sweet, handsome, and hilarious. The trouble is, before they’ve even tied the knot, their sex life has gone from mind-blowing to “meh”—and Liz isn’t ready to be part of an old married couple. After a cathartic call to her best friend, Liz comes up with a brilliant idea. She and Landon may never be able to re-create the magic of their first time, but how amazing would their wedding night be if everything below the neck was off-limits until then?

Liz thinks it’ll bring them closer together. Landon’s convinced she’ll cave first. So they raise the stakes: Whoever lasts longer gets to pick their honeymoon destination. With her heart set on the Bahamas and Landon fighting for snowbound Utah, Liz simply has to win. But pretty soon, her body is screaming for attention, and Landon’s never seemed so far away. Has Liz’s experiment backfired? Losing their little competition would be frustrating—but the one thing she can’t afford to lose is him.

My Review:

I’m pretty sure if you have been with me, reading my reviews, following me on Twitter and Instagram, then you know. You know how much I love Cassie Mae’s writing, how I have read almost all of her books but two and loved every single one and that is dedication. But with Cassie Mae it isn’t dedication for me, its stalking. I cannot tell you how many laughs this girl has gotten out of me, how many times I could not stop smiling because her characters were comedians in their own world and how many times I wanted to cry because I finished another fantastic book and had to wait for the next to release. And Doing It for Love was no different.

I went into the story blind because like I said earlier, I knew, I knew that it was gonna be amazing so why waste precious reading time? I didn’t bother with the synopsis when I logged into NetGalley and clicked the request button and waited until that jewel was into my Kindle. And then I devoured it and then I sat in my bed thinking over the book and then I re read it because that is what you do with Cassie Mae books.

What I loved most about Doing It for Love was that the story was about what happens after a HEA, instead of questions you get answers! Liz and Landon are engaged and are the cutest, most loving couple ever, however there is a catch – Liz thinks their sex life is meh and she wants it to be spiced up and get both their engines running like old times. She doesn’t want to have meh sex forever and especially not on their wedding day so she makes a proposal for no sex until their wedding. The stakes are set much higher when Landon thinks Liz will cave and so the winner gets to pick the honeymoon destination but the question is – who will win?

Its hard to explain how I felt about this book, with every other Cassie Mae book I will say my default answer because it is the only answer I have about her books – I loved it to death. Its vague, kind of, and sounds like a go to answer, which it kind of is too, but its true. I loved it. I loved Liz, I loved Landon, I loved their no sex rule and their trickery ways to get the other to cave in. I loved when they had problems they fixed them. But most of all I loved their love.

You could feel their love in the story, how much they meant to one another and how REAL it was. Gah I smiled at every move Landon made, how their meet-cute was established, and their chemistry is so damn likeable! Again I go back to the realness of their relationship, something Cassie is really good at, how they aren’t perfect. Landon isn’t a millionaire – he works at a call center, Liz isn’t a size two – she works at Bed, Bath and Beyond and eats chocolate like there is no tomorrow and wait for it …. she wears SPANX! These characters do stupid things like we do! They have flaws and make mistakes that are hilariously on point. Liz says so much jargon on this book that I don’t even know what she is saying but its funny and it makes her Liz.

I applaud Cassie for also incorporating how hard it is sometimes in a relationship, you can get mad at the smallest things such as Landon leaving his socks on the floor all the time. Or how not all couples are rich and successful in their work like Liz and Landon and where they have to make rules on spending, and spending money responsibility. Like I said earlier it is real, it isn’t just a story to be read but something we can learn from because throughout the whole debacle, Landon and Liz stay a team. They do not let anyone come between them whether its family, friends, or something as evil as money, they both know what each other wants and desperately tries to achieve for the other.

I can’t say much more about this book without full on gushing but to tell you readers to read the book. Read it and let me know what you think. Tell me what was you favorite Landon moment, how much Liz made you laughed till you could not breath and how many times you said, “Aww” cause I know you will (I said it about thirty times!). If this review doesn’t wholly convince you, keep reading for an excerpt and then get the book.

Thank you readers for reading, NetGalley for approving me for the book and to Tasty Book Tours for allowing me to be on this tour. I will have another blog post up soon,

Over and out.

Excerpt:

“Did you want a baby?” he asks, and my jaw drops.

“Huh?”

“It’s okay if you did. I . . . I mean, I want to have kids with you someday.”

Someday . . . yes. But not today. I grin at the scared-as-hell look on his face. That’s the great thing about the longtime relationship. I know his looks. I know his smiles, his frowns, his laughs. I reach to him, and his hand slips through my wet blond hair, hugs the back of my head, and pulls me into his shoulder. I lock my arms around his torso, ignore the sweet buzzing all over my stomach and heart and sides. His fingers massage my scalp as he rocks me.

“I like the idea of having a permanent piece of you,” I admit into his wet skin.

“You already have a permanent piece of me.” One of his hands slides down the length of my back. “Hell, you have the whole thing.”

“You know what I mean.”

“Okay . . . if you really want . . . I’ll impregnate you. Open up.” He pushes at my thighs, and I smack his shoulders.

“Pretty sure I want us to be married first. And I don’t know . . . older.” Like years ahead of us. We can barely afford to feed ourselves.

“You . . . you said married.”

“I did.”

I push back on his chest, and he scratches his dark hair. “Just letting you know I’m not freaking out about it.”

“This is not freaking out about it?” I say, circling my finger at his face. It could be the steam from the shower making it smoke red, but it sure doesn’t seem that way.

“I let it slide like it was nothing.”

“You did not.”

He growls, playfully nipping at my neck. “Well, I’m not freaking out,” he muffles against

my skin, creating goose bumps up and down my spine. “Because, you know, we’re in the spot.”

“Huh?”

“You know, the spot.”

“In the shower?” I laugh when his red face darkens a shade.

“No, I mean . . . I love you. And it’s not like I’m going to break up with you. And I’m pretty sure you want to be stuck with me.”

“You think we’re stuck? That’s ‘the spot’?”

“No. Shit, it’s coming out wrong.”

“I don’t even know what you’re trying to say.” I laugh, bending down to adjust the heat on the water.

“I’m saying there’s no reason for me to freak out because I want to marry you. I think, you know, we should get married.”

My hand stops dead on the tap, and I crick my neck to catch his expression. He’s gone from red wine to white in the blink of an eye, water dripping from his dark hair down his forehead, and he frantically wipes it away. Then he reaches for me, pulls me up against him, hiding his face.

“Um . . . what did you just say?” I croak, my heart suddenly beating out of my skull. A tidal wave rushes through my stomach, and my nails dig into his shoulders to make sure I’m not dreaming or something.

He slowly backs away from my neck, eyes wide as grapefruits. “I didn’t mean . . . oh shit . . . it wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”

He falls forward, pushing me against the cold tile and hitting his forehead on the wall near my cheek.

“What wasn’t supposed to happen?” I ask through a small laugh. Seconds ago, he was boasting about not freaking out, and now he’s gone bat crazy.

“I had it all planned,” he grumbles into the tile. The echoes bounce off my shoulder. “I even bought a suit. Outside patio dinner, clear night for stars . . . I was going to pull out all the romantic stops, and it just falls out when we’re in the shower.”

“Landon, are you being serious? I can never tell.”

“Because I’m never serious?”

“Pretty much, yeah.”

He lifts his head, eyes meeting mine, and a nervous twitch pulls at the corner of his mouth. “Will you marry me?”

My heart’s still thumping through my brain.

“The test was negative, Landon,” I try to joke, but it comes out wobbly. “You don’t have to—”

“I know.” His palms cradle my face, drops of water falling from his eyelashes. “Will you marry me?”

His misty lips make contact with my nose. I’m still trying to process if he’s serious or not.

“Really? This isn’t because of that pregnancy test, is it?”

“I was planning on asking a few weeks ago. Cross my heart, the ring’s been in this apartment for at least a month.”

My eyes flick back and forth between his, searching, searching, searching for a lie, a joke, a tease, something. But it’s all honesty and nerves and love. So much love I find myself slipping on the wall, losing strength in my knees.

“You are serious.”

“I love you, Liz. Marry me? Please?”

I feel a smile tug on my mouth. The water’s getting too cold to stay underneath, but my body temperature rises, my skin boiling under his touch. I grip his forearms, holding myself steady while he continues to cup my cheeks.

I love every bit of this man, every piece of his heart and soul and mind and body. So even though I wasn’t expecting it this way, even though I was just internally moaning about not getting any spontaneous loving, I practically shout my answer at him.

“Yes.”

“Yes?” He pulls back, the stream of water hitting him square in the face. I laugh and bat it away from him. “Yes . . . you said yes?”

“Yes, I said yes.”

A large relieved breath leaves his mouth before he presses it to mine. Landon’s arms circle my torso, pull me up against his now hot and slick body, and every ounce of disappointment I was feeling evaporates with the shower steam.

“I thought I royally botched that.” He laughs, and a wave of minty breath travels from his mouth to mine.

“You did,” I tease before closing the gap between our lips again. “But I love you.”

The Boys of Summer are back! In Katie Rose’s sweet, sparkling novel, the newest New Jersey Sonic falls for the woman who’s trying desperately to save his career.

Physical therapist Jessica Hart has learned her lesson: Never date professional athletes. She’s been down that road, and barely recovered after the relationship crashed and burned. Then Jessica meets Gavin King. An All-Star slugger with chiseled good looks, Gavin was traded to the Sonics because he hurt his knee sliding into second, and now his future is in her hands. Gavin’s no bad boy—but he’s tempting enough to make Jessica think twice about all her rules.

Gavin is trying to find a comfortable routine. If he wants his old life back, he must take it easy, stay out of the limelight, and keep his distance from gorgeous redheaded physical therapists. The thing is, Gavin isn’t the kind of guy to sit on his ass and let other people pull his weight. And when he sees something he wants, he can’t help but fight for it, even if it means risking everything, even if it only lasts a single moment: like one kiss from Jessica.

Hey guys! I am so excited to be on this tour with you being that #1 I loved this book, #2 this is the third book in its series and it just keeps getting better and finally there’s a giveaway if you stay tuned! Also while I said earlier that this is the third book in its series, if you have not read the Boys of Summer series then you need to hop on the bandwagon and start reading. I have reviews for both previous books if you would like to read over them, the first book Bring on the Heat, and the sequel Too Hot to Handle which both were equally awesome. Read up on the books and then come back and discuss the book with me.

Jessica Hart is a sports physical therapist for the New Jersey Sonics baseball team, a one-of-the-boys type of gal being that she grew up with four older brother, all in the professional sport world. She also didn’t trust baseball player because her heart was broken by one. Gavin King is an All-Star batter but his knee injury makes his team second think their decision to keep and trade him from the Dodgers to the Sonics, a team he very well does not like or think is in his league. So our two protagonists connect and start to become closer much to their dislike of trying not to.

I adored this book, more baseball, more hot guys playing baseball and of course we see old characters again! What I really enjoy about this series and the author, Katie, is her ability to make me fall for each hot baseball player yet keep the whole storyline light and sweet. The whole love-at-first-sight is subtle, it isn’t rushed which is something I read too much of nowadays. The books are nicely paced and are always full of laugh out loud moments to I can’t help to giggle too much whenever I read her books, especially this series.

From the first two books I got to fall for the hot pitcher, the brooding shortstop manwhore and now the famous batter. This only made me enjoy the baseball sport more too! Gavin is well known and he knows he is well known, he has the model girlfriend, the huge fan base and of course the fame. But once the knee injury takes the better of him, everything leaves and he realizes that he may need a friend more than ever. Of course that is when Jessica pops in.

Jessica was a very likeable character, she was energetic when needed, incredibly sweet and an all-around kind of girl. I think her character is what settled Gavin in a way, she was able to get him to get his hate towards everything to dwindle and he got her walls about distrusting baseball players to come down. Also their playful banter throughout the book on grew their friendship and helped them realize how much they needed one another and how they flaws could help one another as well.

When you read the book you see how they aren’t exactly the perfect couple to be and that’s what I loved! Gavin giving her flowers he would later come to find she was allergic to and a very wet and soggy ruined dinner. The beginning was great, no insta love – Gavin was already in a relationship and Jessica didn’t want any chance with a baseball player but later the kinks worked out and their intense attraction later turned into something good and much needed.

Overall the book was amazing, no doubt in my mind about it, and I gave it 4 homerun worthy stars. While this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the first two and reading the backstory on a couple a Gavin’s teammates, they are worth reading and swooning hard over! Hope you enjoyed this review and thank you readers for reading and thank you Tasty Book Tours for helping with the tour and letting me be a part of a great tour! Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25667678-letting-go?ac=1

Synopsis:

A whirlwind of days… Beautiful moments… Then it all comes tumbling down, and Jason learns that the hardest part of living…of loving…is letting go.  This is Jason’s story.

**Letting Go is a Full Length Companion Novel to the Keaton Series and is told in Jason’s (Jase) POV **

Excerpt:

I sat in my favorite spot on the grass in front of the abandoned library, and folded Dan’s latest letter into fourths before shoving it into my pocket. According to his scribbles, he’d be down this weekend, but about ten minutes ago that changed. He called and told me that he had to work. I should’ve known better. His visits to Keaton were few and far between. But there was no use in trying to fix things, because Dan would never let me.

Releasing a breath, I pulled out a pen from my back pocket and started the letter I owed him. In my best chicken scratch, I wrote the D, the A, and the N. The three letters were all I got out when a loud bang followed by a whoosh and constant flapping sound caused me to look up.

A car was headed straight for the tree on the other side of the street and I couldn’t move fast enough, not that trying to help was really an option. There wasn’t any time. The car crashed into the trunk and the screeching of metal pierced my eardrums. My heart pounded, my lungs pumped relentlessly, but the rest of me sat rooted to the grass. I glanced down at the letter, clutched in my shaking fist.

“Shit,” I muttered as I looked up at the steam flowing out of the engine.

I snapped out of my daze and darted from my spot, running directly over to the car. It was in bad shape, but there was no time to investigate it. I sprinted to the driver’s side and tapped on the window, not sure what to expect.

It was a girl.

Her eyes dragged from the steaming heap in front of her and met mine, slamming my heart into my chest. It was hard to focus on anything but the hazel irises staring back at me or the glimmer of water forming in the corners. Her golden hair fell over her heart-shaped face, swaying back and forth as her breathing sped up.

Beautiful.

She was breathtaking.

A streak of crimson appeared, dripping from the wound in her forehead. The frantic expression swarming her features sobered me up quickly.

“Hold still. I’m calling for help right now. You were just in an accident. Your airbag didn’t deploy, and you hit your head pretty hard. I need you to stay put,” I told her, pretending to be calm even though my heart was racing. I wasn’t sure if it was because of the accident or because this gorgeous girl was staring at me like I was her saving grace.

With a shaky hand, I fished my cell phone out and dialed 9-1-1. I told the operator what happened and our location and shoved the phone back into my pocket, returning my focus back to the girl, her hands trembling. The tears covering her face were killing me and I ached to comfort her.

“I know you’re scared, sweetheart, but help is on the way.” I wasn’t sure my words would keep her calm. I just didn’t know what else to tell her. I glanced at the banged up tree and it wasn’t two seconds later, another loud noise drew my attention away.

I twisted my neck and saw the girl furiously pounding against the window, using all of her energy to fight her way out of the car.

Damn it! She might hurt herself more if she kept that up.

“I need you to calm down. You’re going to be okay. The cops are going to help get you out.” Where in the hell were they? The town wasn’t that big. They should have been here already.

“NO! I need out of here. I need out now!” she yelled, like it wasn’t up for negotiation.

This chick was determined and between her sobbing pleas and the blood on her forehead, I was about to lose it if she didn’t get out soon, too. I pulled on the door handle, but there was no luck. It was locked. I ran to the other side, trying to hustle before she kicked her way out. But it was locked too.

Of course.

I looked down and motioned with my finger for her to unlock the door. Two beats later, the door was free and opened.

Thank God.

I exhaled a breath of relief and knelt down, crouching into the car. “Hi there,” I said in the calmest voice I could manage.

I was too stunned to say anything else. Traces of something floral wafted from the car, curling around me. The absence of glass between us magnified her beauty and took my breath away—mesmerizing hazel eyes that hadn’t left mine, blonde hair swept across her shoulders, and finally a cherry-red, heart-shaped

mouth. I didn’t even have to try to smile at her, my lips curved up on their own. I couldn’t help but take the rest of her in.

She had to be a city girl. There was no way she was from around here, because I’d for sure remember a face like hers.

Her books are available in every English speaking country, audiobooks, and are now being translated to 6 different languages.

Born as an identical twin to a large family, she was raised in the Pacific Northwest, later relocating to Colorado for college and a successful IT career before discovering her talent as a writer. She now makes her home along the emerald cost in Florida where she enjoys the beach, hiking, swimming, wine-tasting, and of course writing.
