THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT

The Boys of Summer #3

Katie Rose

Releasing Sept 22nd, 2015

Loveswept

The Boys of Summer are back! In Katie Rose’s sweet, sparkling novel, the newest New Jersey Sonic falls for the woman who’s trying desperately to save his career.

Physical therapist Jessica Hart has learned her lesson: Never date professional athletes. She’s been down that road, and barely recovered after the relationship crashed and burned. Then Jessica meets Gavin King. An All-Star slugger with chiseled good looks, Gavin was traded to the Sonics because he hurt his knee sliding into second, and now his future is in her hands. Gavin’s no bad boy—but he’s tempting enough to make Jessica think twice about all her rules.

Gavin is trying to find a comfortable routine. If he wants his old life back, he must take it easy, stay out of the limelight, and keep his distance from gorgeous redheaded physical therapists. The thing is, Gavin isn’t the kind of guy to sit on his ass and let other people pull his weight. And when he sees something he wants, he can’t help but fight for it, even if it means risking everything, even if it only lasts a single moment: like one kiss from Jessica.

Hey guys! I am so excited to be on this tour with you being that #1 I loved this book, #2 this is the third book in its series and it just keeps getting better and finally there’s a giveaway if you stay tuned! Also while I said earlier that this is the third book in its series, if you have not read the Boys of Summer series then you need to hop on the bandwagon and start reading. I have reviews for both previous books if you would like to read over them, the first book Bring on the Heat, and the sequel Too Hot to Handle which both were equally awesome. Read up on the books and then come back and discuss the book with me.

Jessica Hart is a sports physical therapist for the New Jersey Sonics baseball team, a one-of-the-boys type of gal being that she grew up with four older brother, all in the professional sport world. She also didn’t trust baseball player because her heart was broken by one. Gavin King is an All-Star batter but his knee injury makes his team second think their decision to keep and trade him from the Dodgers to the Sonics, a team he very well does not like or think is in his league. So our two protagonists connect and start to become closer much to their dislike of trying not to.

I adored this book, more baseball, more hot guys playing baseball and of course we see old characters again! What I really enjoy about this series and the author, Katie, is her ability to make me fall for each hot baseball player yet keep the whole storyline light and sweet. The whole love-at-first-sight is subtle, it isn’t rushed which is something I read too much of nowadays. The books are nicely paced and are always full of laugh out loud moments to I can’t help to giggle too much whenever I read her books, especially this series.

From the first two books I got to fall for the hot pitcher, the brooding shortstop manwhore and now the famous batter. This only made me enjoy the baseball sport more too! Gavin is well known and he knows he is well known, he has the model girlfriend, the huge fan base and of course the fame. But once the knee injury takes the better of him, everything leaves and he realizes that he may need a friend more than ever. Of course that is when Jessica pops in.

Jessica was a very likeable character, she was energetic when needed, incredibly sweet and an all-around kind of girl. I think her character is what settled Gavin in a way, she was able to get him to get his hate towards everything to dwindle and he got her walls about distrusting baseball players to come down. Also their playful banter throughout the book on grew their friendship and helped them realize how much they needed one another and how they flaws could help one another as well.

When you read the book you see how they aren’t exactly the perfect couple to be and that’s what I loved! Gavin giving her flowers he would later come to find she was allergic to and a very wet and soggy ruined dinner. The beginning was great, no insta love – Gavin was already in a relationship and Jessica didn’t want any chance with a baseball player but later the kinks worked out and their intense attraction later turned into something good and much needed.

Overall the book was amazing, no doubt in my mind about it, and I gave it 4 homerun worthy stars. While this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the first two and reading the backstory on a couple a Gavin’s teammates, they are worth reading and swooning hard over! Hope you enjoyed this review and thank you readers for reading and thank you Tasty Book Tours for helping with the tour and letting me be a part of a great tour! I will be back with another post up soon,

Bring on the Heat by Katie Rose

Release date: August 26th 2014

Loveswept: Romance (NA)

223 pages (ebook)

ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. You can read this review and others on my Goodreads here. (Don’t be shy to send a friend request as well!)

Lately I have been into sporty books, where the main male character is the star player apart of a star team, sweaty, delicious and can have his dirty moments yet gets himself the girl. And it just so happens that Bring on the Heat had exactly that.

The book revolves around Darcy Hamilton and her case of mistaken identity that leads her into the arms of star pitcher of the New Jersey Sonics – Chase Westbrook. Darcy is a house sitter for a very rich heiress, Lydia Logan, who disappears to Dubai and leaves Darcy to take over her life just for a little bit, including attending a exclusive fashion show held by the Sonics team. Darcy must post as Lydia and when she meets Chase her plan goes too far as the two start to take interest in one another only confusing Chase – who is the real Lydia? The rich and spoiled girl he has seen in tabloids or the down to earth on he is falling for.

I am not the biggest fan of baseball, I don’t mind watching it but that won’t stop me from babbling questions about what’s going on? Who is batting? What does it mean to steal a base? Which is the on offense? Is there a defense? You see I watch basketball and while I played softball for about 3 years I still had no idea what was going on and plus I was usually a bench warmer.

But whilst reading this book I found myself watching baseball, trying to get my cousins to take me to a Ranger game in my hometown of Dallas just so I could show off my baseball talk that I learned from the internet. Reading books that involves any kind of sports is very enticing, it has you in the mindset that you all of sudden like sports, you want to watch and learn about it because you want background about it all and also to understand the book more which makes it all the more enjoying.

I like reading about Darcy and her down to earth attitude, more characters and people in general need to be more like her. I was glad that she was paired up with Chase, as he was her favorite player on the Sonics and also her favorite crush, she needed some happiness in her life. Immediately the couple clicked and how their relationship felt like a Cinderella love story – Chase rescuing her from her mundane life and giving her a life full of love that she deserves.

Their relationship was very playful, relaxed and not at all forced – something they were both really comfortable with in their hectic and rushed lives but also had its sexy times that swept both characters off their feet.

I enjoyed their roller coaster of a relationship and how they came together in the end despite the obstacles involved. I do wish we had more Darcy and Chase as she was the real Darcy and not partaking Lydia’s personality but other than that no complaints.

Overall I gave the book 4 stars and be on the lookout of my review and the next book in the Boys of Summer series, Too Hot the Handle, where you guys will get to meet Chase’s sexy and womanizer teammate, Jake Baldwin. Thank you Random House/Loveswept for yet another great read and you readers for reading, I will be back with another blog post soon,

Over and out.

Wild Night – Tina Wainscott

Release Date: November 4th 2014

Loveswept: New Adult

276 pages (Kindle edition)

ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. You can also find this and check out my Goodreads here. (This is the third book in its series and can be read as a stand alone though I have reviews up for the novella/prequel Wild Hearts, the first book,Wild on You, and the second book, Wild Ways.)

It has been awhile since I was in this series and had to have a quick refresher over the first two books in the series, including the novella, to remember how fun and quick these books were. Though that being said I felt like this one was a step down from the previous, which is my favorite so far, however I enjoyed reading about Saxby’s story.

Saxby is an ex-SEAL and now currently working for a company called Justiss Alliance that incorporates his SEAL training to go undercover and investigate sticky and sneaky things that go about. His current mission involves him to investigate a hotel resort that had claims from guests about date rape drugs being used. There he meets Jennessy who was recently dumped and takes this time to go wild like she has never done before. This trip brings the two together as she is given the date rape drug but is saved by Saxby before things got out of hand and they are now partners in trying to find out who exactly is distributing the drug and why.

Despite me liking this less than the second book in the series, it was still an interesting read and it went by fairly quickly. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters, Wainscott is good about writing steamy scene and getting sparks between her leads and this was another great example of it. From the beginning of the series I was eagerly awaiting Saxby’s southern charm and of course he didn’t let me down, with his sexiness he knew no woman could turn down but Jennessy may be the woman to turn his world upside down.

The banter between the two were just right, not too cheesy nor annoying which was something you don’t see enough if NA books these days. I also liked the combat in the story, it was introduced nicely and separates itself from other books in its genre. Jennessy was a great female lead, not letting Saxby’s sexiness distract her from him bossing her around like the big bad SEAL thinks he can. Eventually they learn to work around one another and see how much they are alike and click together.

Overall I gave this book 3.5 stars. Like the others in its series, I look forward to reading about the stories of the 2 remaining SEAL’s and hope to see cameos of the couple I have already met. If you haven’t read the series yet, I recommend getting them, they are quick and fun reads. Thank you readers for reading and I will have another blog post up soon.

Wild Ways

As promised I binge read this series and am binge writing the review for this series and trying my best to get them out to you guys so I hypnotize you to read them and then we all can fangirl over these hot SEALs together. Or if you are a fanboy, we can still chat and stare at the covers together.

Alright I will say with 100% honestly that Julian, the SEAL for this story, is my favorite! I don’t know exactly why but his story reached out and grabbed me, pulling me in to get a better grasp and I did not want to let go. Goodness I loved his personality, his genuine personality, his instinct to want to protect anybody in need of help and the bad boy vibe he gives off – especially since he rides a motorcycle.

In Julian’s story he doesn’t really receive his assignment, he finds his own and that happens to be helping Mollie Reagan find her sister. Usually this isn’t Julian’s scene however once meeting Mollie he can’t think of a way to not think about her and when he realizes the path and risks she is taking to find her sister is not the safest one he has not choice but to help. While Mollie is used to being on her own and not trusting many there is something about Julian that leads to want to be helped and it doesn’t hurt that Julian is the kind of wild Mollie may have been looking for.

*sigh*

This book. This book had me staying up till 2 AM to finish because it was so addicting! I could not get enough a Julian, his antics, sultry smiles and dirty thoughts. He was literally head to toe sexy, lethal and beyond gorgeous. But when he and Mollie were together it was like fireworks. I loved how Julian is a womanizer type of guy but believes that Mollie could be the ‘one’ however Mollie is the girl that has set standards so high that Julian may spend quite a while climbing them. Though as the story progresses on, as the two fight crazy motorcycle, bar fighting, huge guys and speeding away from bullets, Mollie’s walls are inching down and Julian is starting to crack her armor just as she does his.

Plus the author goes a step more with the action plot, I swear I felt like I was playing Call of Duty while reading. Shooting the bad guys, riding atop cars to save the girl, fighting on roofs and stakeouts. Throw a little romance in there and BAM you get Wild Ways.

Another point I saw in the book was how the author incorporated the relationships of women in motorcycle groups/gangs and how ridiculed it was. It was nice to get some insight on how women were treated and while it did anger me I was glad to see and hear about this, maybe another type of domestic abuse to out an end to. Don’t let this keep you from reading the book though! It all pans out in the end and I am that much more excited to delve into the next SEAL’s stories.

Overall I absolutely enjoyed this read and gave it a whopping well deserved 4 stars. Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the chance to read and review Wild Way. Thank you readers for reading my review and I will have another post up soon!

Wild on You

Its been a while since I read this so I had to skim some scenes and remember why this series is one of my favorites of this year so far! If you have been with me for a while and remember I reviewed a novella by the author about this series you know I loved the book and couldn’t wait to binge read the series.

Well I did and yes I did love it as expected and cannot wait for the next installment. (There is three out so far, go read them!)

While in the novella, readers were introduced to 5 ex Navy SEALs and discovered the first book in its series would follow one of the SEALs, Rick Yarbrough, aka Risk, who wanted to be apart of the Justiss Alliance – an agency/security firm. His first assignment is one he has been waiting for and is ready to take head on no matter the danger that lies ahead but what he find is different than what he expected. His assignment? Baby sit a general’s daughter who is an animals right activist and completely out of control, even for him. Addie Wunder doesn’t believe she needs protection but when she realizes the real danger she is in, having Risk tagging along isn’t such a bad idea. Especially when the emotions between the two are becoming heated.

Guys I didn’t understand how much I would love each individual SEAL, which is a lot, and reading their own stories are so much fun and their love interest seem to get the better of them.

Risk was one of the SEALs in the novella that had me wanting to dig deeper for information on and his story was perfection. And the author even incorporated his ex SEAL team in the story (Saxby, Julian, Knox & Rath) and I squealed with happiness when they had their cameos. From the novella we know Risk as the adventurous one and in Wild on You he is no different. He and Addie were such an enjoyable couple to read about, their sarcastic remarks to one another and hilarious interactions that turned to lust they both tried to deny.

In the beginning it was difficult for the two being in the same room with one another, the awkward silence and sexual tension. What made it all more hilarious was that Addie was a supposed lesbian, only making Risk be much more attracted to her and later finding out she was in fact not a lesbian and then they went after each other.

The story moves pretty quick, action packed, like with guns and the guy does know how to use one, fighting scenes and I loved every page. Addie was an independent woman that didn’t want anyone to take care of her because she can very well take care of herself. She is devoted to saving animals and caring as much as she can for them, her compassion shining throughout the book.

Overall the end was comforting, wrapping everything up in a small happy climax that was overcome, leaving me satisfied and wanting more. I gave this book 4 action packed stars and am re reading the next book as I finish this review. Thank you NetGalley and to the publishers (Loveswept) for the opportunity to read and review Wild on You. Thank you readers for reading my reviews and I will have another post up soon,

Over and out.

Summer Demons

I didn’t realize that this book was actually a novella. Once I began to get into the reading flow and really get into the story, it was already over! Summer Demons was a very quick read and I found myself wanting more once I finished it.

This read focuses on two young protagonists, Jenna and Ethan, who meet while on vacation in Portugal. Ethan is all lust when his eyes are set on Jenna but when he decides to pull an innocent prank on her, it plays out completely different than how he wanted it to go. Jenna immediately sees Ethan as another douche that basically want inside her pants and she isn’t playing his game, especially since his prank brings up old memories she would rather keep buried and hidden as far from her heart as possible. But of course Ethan tries to get Jenna to forgive him but wind up finding a mystery beneath her looks and wants to figure her out and maybe help her as well.

I have decided that I really enjoy reading short stories/novellas because they wrap up a story quickly rather than drag it out and I can read the next in its series without waiting five years. This story intrigued me more so than others because I loved how the romance took its time to build up and then hit the readers as a whole rather than the insta love you would see in most books.

What made me happy most about the story was the right amount of balance of steamy scenes and drama, neither one outweighing the other. Also as Ethan progresses in the story we see a much more understanding guy who does want to help Jenna with her problems and be there for her and not for other intentions. The only problem I had while reading this was probably the POV changing, being that it switched off between Ethan and Jenna in the middle of some chapters. Of course I am all for different POV’s but I was confused on some scenes, wondering who was who.

All in all I gave the book about 3 and a half-ish stars, rounding to 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for approving me for this read. Thank you readers for always reading my posts and I will have another blog post up soon!

Undone

Like with all contemporary books I end up finishing them with goofy smiles and daydreams about hot guys that sweep me off my feet as the characters in the books. Undone was no different and I loved the characters as I always do with most romances. This read was set in a small town and focuses on a cute conflicting romance between a city girl, Paige, and a really cute mechanic, Brendan, that happens to be the only gut that can fix all her problems and bring out the true snarky, sassy girl inside.

I enjoyed watching the two characters duke it out and fight there emotions when it was obvious that, duh, they were going to get together and love like hell. Their romance was sweet and warm that had me giggling at all the right parts as well as sighing with envy because why can’t we all have a sexy mechanic like Brendan?

Other than that we know that of course there will be something that burrows its way between them but the HEA wouldn’t be a HEA if we didn’t have rising action and obstacles in the way right? I also had seen that this is a first of a series and yeah that intrigued me so expect me to look into the next book and report back to you followers. I look forward to watching how the rest of the books play out and maybe see some of Paige and Brendan.

Of 5 stars I give Undone about 3 and half being that I liked the romance and steamy scenes (yes I really did) and that it wrapped the story in one quick read. Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and of course to you readers for reading! I will be back with another review or book related post soon soooo…

Jessica Sorensen, The Temptation of Lila and Ethan

ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. You can also find this and check out my Goodreads here.

Lila and Ethan

Despite a few other books I have read by Jessica Sorensen, I thoroughly enjoyed Lila and Ethan’s story much more. I also didn’t know that this was part of her Micha and Ella series but now that I have read the first book in that series I still have to say I loved Lila and Ethan’s more as well. Sorensen’s other books feel too immature compares to this one, maybe because there is a deeper concept in this book or the characters had bigger issues to deal with.

Lila and Ethan are total opposites, coming from different parts of the US, different backgrounds and homes, just different personalities in general. I heard that they kicked off as close friend in the Micha and Ella stories and I could see why.

Lila has been thrown into the world of perfection by her parents, everything about her is either perfect or on the road to being perfected despite Lila’s want to be herself. Her parents don’t care about her wants or needs so she leads her life into sex and drugs. Ethan was always there to pick her up when she has had a bad night or doesn’t have a clue where she woke up. He was her affection in a way since she couldn’t get an ounce of it from her family.

Ethan grew up in a domestic violence scene and had it locked in his head that he wanted to be nothing like his father. He grew up and met a girl, London. But that relationship went haywire, leaving Ethan with a broken heart and too much guilt that led him to sex and absolutely no relationships ever again.

Now this is where things began to get tricky. Two people who only want sex but cannot do that to one another. Because they secretly want a relationship with one another as well. Oh my goodness did this anger me! Their sexual tension is all over the place and they know it. However why ruin a perfectly great friendship over pleasure for one night?

Throughout the book I just wanted one little kiss between them. Sure they got close but that was teasing them and me. Though I didn’t get what I wanted right away I adored their friendly banter, arguments, teasing and private jokes.  But that seemed to just keep their secrets away from each other and I desperately wanted to find out what is was. When Ethan does find out about Lila, she goes on a rampage and the only one to help her fix herself and her past ways is Ethan.

Oh I loved watching Ethan transform in her knight in shining armor and neither of them really noticed it until it was right in front of them and they had no choice but to come up front with their feelings. This was when their emotions were raw and there was no turning back.

Overall this book was a tease and I liked that enough to give it 4 teasing stars and am anticipating a sequel??? (Please let there be a sequel) Thank you NetGalley and to the publishers for the read and thank you readers for reading! I will have another post up soon,

Over and out.

Carnival

Lately I have been on this odd New Adult binge where I just wanted to read all the books New Adult and if wasn’t New Adult then there was no way I was going to read it. SO you know, I went to NetGalley and brought forth all the New Adult books. I requested some titles and then what do you know….

I get them all.

Carnival was eh, one of the five or so I requested and had by far the prettiest and sexiest cover so duh I went to read this one first. Of course I had my moments with the book because it either had what I didn’t want or the plot didn’t go as I planned it all in my head.

I finished the book pretty quickly and found myself actually liking the book, yeah it wasn’t the best New Adult book out there but I liked it enough to want to read the sequel (so I hear that there is a sequel anyways).

Basically this book is based on a girl, Charlie, who is packed and ready to go and live her life in college though she begins to second guess herself and her decisions. She then starts to try and give herself her own choices and that leads her to sleeping with a total stranger she meets at her local carnival. His name is Blue.

Blue is the mysterious, gotta get to know type of guy and the more you try to get to know him the more mysterious and deeper his personality seems to be. Of course this is what leads the two characters to get to know each other and begin to fall in love and their adventure into the world begins.

I honestly had some half and half emotions about this story, half I really enjoyed and the other half um, not so much. The beginning is what I liked most, Charlie’s voice in the story pulled me in and immediately I was laughing at her witty sarcasm. Her pull to Blue is what peaked my interest as well, their odd relationship blooming from the start. I also applaud the author for making the female protagonist NOT a virgin despite this being a New Adult book.

Charlie Blue’s relationship was fun and cute however as they and the story progressed I felt as it started to go downhill and I began to feel confused about it all. There were lots of random drinking for me, too much trying to find out who the hell Blue really is and then drugs. I do not mind reading about the main characters doing drugs and whatnot but I thought these characters were better than that, at least from what I read about them in the beginning.

Other than that I am intrigued to see how the next book will live up to Carnival. The ending surprised me a bit, cliffhanger-ish and a little confusing but leaves the reader with enough understanding and interest in the sequel.

Thank you NetGalley and to the publishers for approving me for Carnival, I give it 3 stars! Thank you readers for reading and I will have another post up soon,

Over and out.

Wild Hearts (Justiss Alliance, #0.5)

ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
You can find this review and others on my Goodreads and friend me as well here!

Warning to those who have yet read about the Justiss Alliance boys, you will be foaming at the mouth for a chance to be a room with even one of the Ex-SEALs. To those who have read the series, as I have, I approve of your choice of reading and applaud to those who haven’t been evacuated yet to the nearest hospitable for multiple heart problems because mine was beating too erratically and often stopped.

Welcome to the Justiss Alliance where 5 Ex-SEALs have the choice to join and be apart of an agency whose sole purpose is to attain justice for those who can’t. When a covert mission goes wrong and they are to blame, putting their careers in tatters, what is left for Risk, Rath, Saxby, Julian and Knox when everything they have know as a SEAL is taken away? Being fired was enough but now the country believes their team went rogue on a mission and are now being labeled as the “Rogue Six”. When offered to return to a field of work similar to what they have been trained for as a SEAL by Chase Justiss, CEO of Justiss Alliance, the five former SEALs make the decision to join up and continue to do what they love to do.

This is a novella and prequel, introducing you to each SEAL who will have their own story in the series:

Rick (Risk) Yarbrough
Julian (Salsa) Cuevas
Saxby (Sooch) Cole
Knox (Maverick) Logan
Rathmusen (Rath) Blackwood

Wild Hearts introduces readers you to the characters, giving the backstory to their so called ‘rogue’ mission and helps us understand each SEAL before we dive into their own stories.

I stumbled upon this series by actually reading the third book in the series first before I realized it was a series. Each book can be read as a standalone, so far there are three, and each is about a SEAL with their own missions and happily ever after. I decided to go back to NetGalley and try to binge read the novella and the first two books and I must say I can’t believe I was missing out!

I loved how this novella gave us some insight on each man, we get to see how they interact not only as partners in combat but also brothers. I enjoyed seeing the banter between the 5 guys, and also see what each went through once they finally went home. Each had their own problems to deal with and some were heart wrenching and exciting enough for me eagerly wanting the next books.

Book #1 Wild on You is Rick’s (Risk) story and you do not want to miss it!

Thank you NetGalley and to Loveswept for providing me with a copy, I award the novella with 4 stars and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Over and out.
