Summary from Goodreads:
Europe? Nope. Mexico? Nope. Key West?
Not me. This summer, I’m playing nursemaid to my sister. Yeah, I know. Relatively good looking twenty-two-year-olds don’t spend the summer bedside in the cancer ward, but that’s the plan – until my sister threatens me with bodily harm unless I get on the plane.
That’s when I met him. He likes me. Really likes me. But more than that, he loves my boobs — like can’t get enough. I have no idea how to tell him that they’ll be gone soon. Courtesy of a preventative double mastectomy. Yep. That’s what testing positive for the breast cancer gene mutation will do to a girl.
But don’t feel sorry for me. I’m enjoying him, holding on until the last possible minute, while I muster up the strength to tell him, and watch him walk away.

About the author:
I wrote my first book at six. A retelling of The Three Little Pigs, illustrated by my grandmother, the book was never picked up and was self-published instead, glued to cardboard with a cover fashioned from wallpaper scraps.
Today, I write stories featuring nice guys (or nice guys in-the-making) in between my other jobs writing research reports for a commercial real estate company, refereeing two young daughters, navigating the teen waters with a too-cute-for-his-own-good son, spoiling a neurotic cat, and making my darling, patient husband shake his head. I’m also an autism mom, chocolate enthusiast, sports-watcher, nacho-eater, and beer-drinker.
A Maryland native, I live in North Carolina now, but dreams of the beach fuel my fantasties, and my characters can often be found strolling in the sand or sailing along a coast.

Review:
Goodbye to You, I knew, was going to be a heart wrenching story and Matthews did not disappoint. I wasn’t sobbing but I did have a few tears that fell and the ending it was did it for me.
At first the book was a tad slow for me, not that I wanted to hurry and get to the steamy scenes, but that I wanted more time to learn about Thea and her love interest, Shay. I think their meet up went too fast, I wanted to hang out with them more, read about Thea laughing and Shay cracking jokes, just more romance time I guess, though the author had the romance perfect later on.
Thea is a very spirited person, despite the problems she knows she has to face later on. I couldn’t believe how calm she was about it all, goodness if I had boobs like she did (and goodness she had some boobs) I would be bawling my eyes out just thinking about the surgery. However Thea was a trooper about it all, she knew she had to undergo surgery, there was no hiding from it, it was life at its worst and she was going to fight it.
Shay was a type of guy that I wish there were more of – loyal, good looking, smart, hot, honest, has a six pack (or 8 pack), has a beautiful face, adorable personality and dear God he is like an Adonis. In all seriousness Shay was almost too perfect to be real, I couldn’t believe how laid back and cool he was. He didn’t want to immediately tackle Thea out of her underwear, he wanted to but that’s not the type of guy he was AND he even told her that. Ugh my heart cries for a man like him.
We also learn that Shay is in medical school, for a very good reason that I don’t want to say because it will spoil you, and I had many hypothesis about him being the person to do the surgery on Thea, or he was an intern to help out with procedure etc. etc. It sounds far off but I literally thought that was how he was going to find out.
I was very pissed when Thea took forever to tell Shay about hersurgery, he has proven over and over how loyal he can be and even his small gestures show he loves her as well. It broke my heart when he found out and how upset he was. But I also know that he is such a great guy he couldn’t exactly leave, he had to know all the facts and he would eventually work it out, only proving how amazing he is.
I was hoping throughout the whole book that maybe Thea’s chances of cancer would miraculously disappear but the author shocked me by going through with Thea’s surgery and I did cry a little. I was amazed by the aftermath of it all, I loved how the author took us through the procedures of aftercare and the road to recovery. It was heartbreaking and I couldn’t have asked for a better ending.
